Employment Opportunity: Managing Director

Chamber Music on the Fox of Elgin, IL, seeks a Managing Director who will grow the organization administratively while fostering engaging, enriching, and immersive performances.

The Managing Director’s Responsibilities will include:

Overseeing staff

  • Working collaboratively with Artistic Director
  • Overseeing Box Office Manager and Social Media Manager

Overseeing contractors

  • Marketing/Design
  • Accounting
  • Grant Writer

Fundraising

  • Meet with foundation representatives, individual donors, appear in person to Elgin Cultural Arts Commission meetings
  • Solicit sponsorships and donations
  • Plan fundraisers (and friend-raisers), create fundraising campaigns
  • Grow organization’s budget through new funding sources

Budgeting

  • Review monthly financials
  • Work with Artistic Director to create annual budget  
  • Negotiate fees with artists and create/send out contracts
  • Pay vendors, artists, any other invoices

Community

  • Establish and nurture relationships with community members, arts organizations, public library, city of Elgin, etc
  • Be present, visible, available
  • Welcome audiences, have a comfort with public speaking

Operations

  • Organize bar/reception food and drinks if needed
  • Engage board, grow board, expand board meetings and board member responsibilities, organize regular meetings
  • Oversee design/printing of concert program booklets

The ideal candidate will have:

  • A passion for chamber music, collaboration, and communication
  • A successful track record of fundraising for arts organizations, including fundraising efforts with individual donors and writing/management of grants
  • A working understanding of the greater Fox Valley community

This position is part time and will average approximately 15 hours per week. The starting salary we are offering is $20,000; however, we envision this number increasing as new fundraising strategies are put into place. As Chamber Music on the Fox grows, so will this position and its salary.
